Increase In Motorists Fines

Fines for motorists to increase.

Motorists Fines To Increase

I saw where there is to be an increase in motoring spot fines from the current £60 to £100.  These penalties can be for speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, failing to stop at a zebra crossing, etc.

This is an over 60% increase, which is a substantial hike.

This surcharge will now be levied on all drivers who are charged with speeding and other notices, not just those who take their cases to court.

Sounds like a good way for the government to make up some much needed cash.  And the money is used for various projects and programmes, including one for victims of domestic violence.  So for a good cause.

Of course there are ‘driving groups’ out there that are condemning the increase.

I say, if you have done nothing wrong, don’t speed, or violate any driving rules and laws, you have nothing to worry about.

In the city I live in the council here could make millions if they just issued more parking fines.   People park everywhere and anywhere; I make the joke if you can stop your car, you’ve got a parking place.

There is truth in jest, in that people are doing just that.  Basically stopping and parking their cars up on the walks near shops and stores and causing huge disruptions in the flow of traffic.  And of course they will continue to do this because they are not cited or fined.

On any given day on just a few of the streets near where I live I can count 25 or more parking violations a day, and that is just within the hour that I am counting.

This could add up to a lot more revenue for the council.

But they turn a blind eye.  Maybe not to upset the shop keepers who need the custom and want people to park nearby.

So for now, drive safe, and park anywhere you want.
